Caring for Those Who Care for Everyone Else

Supporting the mental health, resilience, and well-being of first responders through education designed for the realities of the job.

Our Story

Every emergency call leaves an impact.

While first responders are trained to manage crises, save lives, and make split-second decisions under pressure, the emotional weight of those experiences often continues long after the incident has ended. Over the course of a career, repeated exposure to trauma, loss, and human suffering can quietly affect mental health, relationships, physical well-being, and overall quality of life.

FRRN was created from a simple belief: those who dedicate their lives to protecting others deserve access to education and resources that support their own well-being.

Our goal is to make mental wellness education accessible, practical, and relevant to the unique experiences of emergency professionals. By providing evidence-informed courses focused on trauma awareness, resilience, and emotional health, we strive to help first responders care for themselves with the same commitment they show their communities every day.

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip every First Responder with a comprehensive program of preventative and resilience-building strategies, ensuring they have the essential tools to effectively handle the challenges of their demanding and vital work.

Why We Exist

Emergency professionals are often expected to remain strong in the face of extraordinary circumstances. Yet strength does not mean carrying every difficult experience alone.

We believe that education is one of the most powerful ways to promote awareness, encourage healthy conversations, and provide practical strategies for navigating the cumulative effects of trauma. By investing in the well-being of those who serve, we help strengthen the individuals, families, departments, and communities that depend on them.

Meet the Founder

Tim Tharp is a fourth-generation firefighter and retired Battalion Fire Chief/Paramedic with more than 30 years of service in the fire service. After retiring in 2009, he continued his public safety career as a subject matter expert with the United States Marine Corps, where he helped design emergency management career paths and assessed installation-level emergency programs nationwide.

He later brought his leadership and crisis management expertise to the State of Maryland, where he played a key role in the COVID-19 response, including leading the establishment and operations of 13 mass vaccination sites across the state. He also served as chief of staff to the Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard, guiding statewide emergency management and leadership initiatives.

Now retired from state service, Tim is the CEO and Founder of the First Responders Resilience Network (FRRN), where he continues his lifelong commitment to the public safety community. After reflecting on his own journey, he asked himself: “Why was the good stuff—the tools and resources for resilience—only available after I needed them?” That realization inspired him to create FRRN and this program, designed to put essential skills for well-being, peak performance, and resilience into the hands of first responders before tragedy and trauma hit.
